Interview with Trivium

Roadhouse Casino, Las Vegas - March 27, 2005

Phil: We're sitting here backstage at the Roadhouse Casino in Las Vegas and we're with Palo from Trivium, how are you doing tonight?

Palo: Pretty Good!

Phil: Now Trivium is a Latin name meaning...

Palo: It's got a few meanings, it's like a in Latin in means a three way intersection, with these little tight turns. It's three things of learning. For us, it's just different types of music. One dude from Metal Edge told us it was melodic thrash...something like that. It's got a few meanings.

Phil: So you guys were formed in 2000, and it's just taken off from there?

Palo: Yea, and every year it's just gone better and better.

Phil: Ascendancy is your first Roadrunner release, what made you decide to go with roadrunner, were there other offers?

Palo: Yea, Century Media and there were other offers, as well. But Roadrunner...just look at their roster, and what they've done with their bands. They've made some of their bands a household name...Sepultura, Machine Head...so we thought, who else would better than Roadrunner to get us where we want to be, in the next few years.

Phil: So they're treating you guys well, I take it?

Palo: Oh, amazing! We couldn't ask for any better!

Phil: You recorded Ascendancy at Audio Hammer & Morris Sound Studios. Did you do some at one, and switch?

Palo: At Morris Sound we did the drums, at Audio Hammer we tracked everything else!

Phil: How has the Roadrage Tour been going?

Palo: Awesome! Every band is amazing, I think every band brings something different to the table and it's not the same band every set. Everyone is super nice, you can't ask for anything more on a tour!

Phil: How does it feel doing the tours for Roadrunners 25th anniversary?

Palo: Oh, it's cool! A big honor!

Phil: You've opened for Iced Earth, Killswitch, Fear Factory, etc...and you also did a tour with Machinehead. How did it go?

Palo: It was one of the coolest things for me, personally, because that was my first, my first actual tour with the band. Doing it with Machinehead and Chimaira was amazing! Bands that I idolize, I was amazing! Going into it I was like, are the gonna be cool, are they gonna have egos....they were just down to Earth people. They all showed me personally the ropes of touring and it was a great experience!

Phil: So you guys had some problems during Hurricane Charlie?

Palo: Oh yea! *laughs* We had to drive through it, basically it just passed through...we stuck into the state, they just re-opened the roads. We were coming through at the back end of it, but we made it there and played the show! Then when we were doing our CD, a few hurricanes hit and fucked up the power. Hurricanes were trying to stop us this year, but they didn't.

Phil: That's good! I heard your song, LIKE LIGHT TO THE FLIES, on Siris Satellite Radio on hard attack, sounded excellent! How do you go about getting on satellite radio, is that handled by the label or management?

Palo: Those kind of people, they find out about the bands and then they put them on there. But the labels don't put us on, basically people requesting us a lot. We have the same thing with college radio, people requesting us a lot. It's the people that are supporting us.

Phil: You've been chosen for 2005 Ozzfest tour, how can you top that!

Palo: Maybe a full world tour with Metallica, but that's about it! That's all I can think of.

Phil: So I guess you guys are really excited about that!

Palo: To see Iron Maiden every night is worth it, and then to get to play on top of that!

Phil: Are you guys thinking about any DVD plans for Ozzfest?

Palo: I don't know about on Ozzfest, but it's a possibility. But I'd say we're going to do a DVD in the next year.

Phil: Cool! Are you guys working on any new material?

Palo: Matt's been writing some stuff, I've been writing some stuff here and there, we're getting some ideas. We're pretty sure how we're going to make the next CD. We're just getting ideas right now, making riffs, intros, etc.

Phil: How about any of your music, can we download that anywhere?

Palo: Yea, you can download all of the videos we've done, and you can get an E-card at Roadrunnerrecords.com. Every song is streamed on there, they stream our videos and it's a good way to check out all the songs before you get the CD.

Phil: And you guys have your website, as well.

Palo: Yes, trivium.org.

Phil: Anything you'd like to say to the fans?

Palo: Yea, check out the E-card, it's got all of our songs on there and we'll be seeing you at Ozzfest!

Phil: Thank you for joining closedcoffin.com, best of luck to you in your future plans.

Palo: Thank You!
